Why is it that whenever I watch television news shows and political talk shows on CNN, NBC and ABC, I always see the anchor, two republicans and only one democrat? This happened throughout the GW Bush presidency and is still happening across the dial! Have the networks decided to push the republican point of view over the democrats? Are the democrats not marketing themselves well? Or are they just too boring? Thus, I say to democrats . . . no, I beg them- get out there and use the news media often and effectively. This is free coverage! It is worth so much more than campaign ads.
(Note that I did not mention CBS because I can never find Face the Nation and no one can replace Dan Rather as anchor of the evening news.)
I was watching the news last night when the most outrageous story appeared: parents in Texas, (where else?) are holding their young childrens' birthday parties at gun clubs. The children gain hands-on experience shooting guns as entertainment. Sort of like "Chuckie Cheese" but with guns. The reporter did not say if shooting practice is before or after ice cream and cake is served, or whether the children would be playing shoot the tail off the donkey instead of pin the tail on the donkey.
Now, I have mixed feelings about gun control, remembering, as I do, both Kennedy shootings, and subsequent assassination attempts on other leaders. But I also remember those last days of the Nixon presidency and how no one knew if he was going to call out the National Guard and refuse to give up his office. In addition to Nixon, there was VP Dick Cheney, enough said about him. This is my long-winded way of saying that generally, I'm on the fence about gun control. But these parties give me cause for great concern. Some how, I doubt that my parents, part of what Tom Brokaw calls The Greatest Generation would have allowed me to attend such a party.
So, please listen to me-I'm not sure how to say this-WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?? Are they that stupid? How about criminal charges? Like felony child endangerment, perhaps? Were they raised to value life or raised with any common sense at all?
So, Mitt Romney's schoolmate told the press that he witnessed Mitt and some other teens gang up on another kid because his hair was long and recently died blond and Mitt believed he was gay. The other teens held the kid down while Mitt forcibly cut his hair. The kid was in tears. It was Mitt's idea, he planned it and he led the group.
Of course, the press reported this and Mitt Romney, Presidential candidate, said that he had no memory of the alleged incident. Now, we all do things during adolescence of which we are not proud, But what he did was vicious and premeditated. He was 18 years old when he committed this crime.
As for Mitt's alleged failure to recall the incident, who doesn't recall something like that? The victim remembered it, the other participants remember it, the witnesses remember it. Most of them were very bothered, if not haunted, by it. Except Mitt, who wants to be president. If you had tackled someone, held him down and cut his hair against his will, wouldn't you remember it? I certainly would and so would you, I hope. . . If we had no recollection of something like that, we could rightly be accused of having no conscience.
